Don’t Give Up

While speaking with a few of my friends last week, I noticed a common theme.  They were all tired of being a “good person”, because things they were praying for didn’t seem to be going the way they wanted. They had been asking God to move in certain areas of their lives and were quite simply tired of waiting.

It reminded me of Galatians 6:9 which encourages us not to give up when we are tired of doing what’s right.  The scripture says, “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”(NLT) As you trust God to answer your prayers, you must also trust in his timing. Remember, he knows what is best for you each step of the way.

You get tired of doing what is good because you are relying on your own human efforts to make things happen. You must put your trust in him. What God is doing is most often behind the scenes. This is where your faith comes in. It’s the blind trust in knowing that God will orchestrate the events of your life that are best for you.

He probably works behind the scenes also to prevent you from intervening and messing things up. When you trust God, you don’t need to concern yourself with how he’s going to work it out. Your efforts should be focused on trusting him and being led by the Spirit to do what he has called you to do while you’re waiting.

You may have heard the old adage, “He may not come when you want him, but he always comes on time.” Trusting God doesn’t mean you never have feelings of doubt, frustration or fear.  You may even feel like giving up on what you’ve prayed for or feel like God isn’t concerned about your request.

Hold on just a little while longer. Oftentimes it is just when you let go of the promise, that your breakthrough was just around the corner.  Believe that things will eventually work in your favor and you will receive the harvest God promises. Keep your eyes on him and continue to feed yourself spiritually through daily exposure to his word, which never fails.
