In Old Testament times, iron blades were used to sharpen each other. When rubbed together the edges become sharper which causes each one to become more effective.
Your journey of faith requires growth. Although you can achieve a measure of success alone, significant growth requires accountability. You must have someone in your life who motivates you to do your best. If no-one is questioning, encouraging, coaching, and challenging you, it’s much easier to become complacent.
Now, don’t go out and just grab anybody for the task. You’ve probably heard the saying, “Birds of a feather flock together.” Typically it’s used to describe a group of mischievous folks that feed off of one another to do bad things. But it really means, good or bad, you tend to hang with people who have similar interests and goals.
One way to increase your faith is by hanging with others who share your beliefs. You will make each other better. Especially, when you’re following the teachings of the Bible and have a sincere desire to live according to His word. Don’t worry, it doesn’t take an entourage, just a faithful few.
Proverbs 27:17 NIV - “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
