Probably as a child you can remember being told to be still. Depending on the situation, determined how difficult it was for you to honor that request. Partly, because at that age you hadn’t fully developed all the discipline it took to be still in certain situations, which led you to disobey the command to be still.
In our spiritual journey we are often commanded to be still. In fact, in Psalms 46:10 KJV we are told , “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
When we obey this direction, it allows us to experience a level of peace and to witness how God orchestrates the events of our lives for our good.
Being still is definitely not passive, it requires us to actively exercise our faith in God. As we are still, we can listen for his guidance regarding our next steps. Now, just as when you were a child, being still can be a challenge. However, as we mature in age, we must also mature in our faith. If we are obedient to his command, he will be exalted and our situation will work out just fine. Our job is to trust him and be still!
