In this life we find ourselves constantly seeking for something. It can be material things, personal accolades and even emotional fulfillment. As it pertains to physical survival, we seek food, clothing, and shelter. However, the world seems filled with people who have an overwhelming sense of entitlement. This mindset of privilege causes us to seek for over abundance, regardless of whether it pertains to our wants or needs.
This worldly sensibility sends us on a quest which will always be unfulfilling. We are left constantly searching for the next best thing, but even if we get it, we are still not satisfied. This never ending quest could be resolved if we would follow a simple principle in the Bible that addresses what we should seek.
Matthew 6:33 - “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” KJV
Diligently seeking the kingdom God has prepared for us should be our top priority. The righteousness of God which is revealed through the gospel is what gives us access to his kingdom. This has nothing to do with our righteousness (we have none), it is the righteousness of Christ living in us. Therefore, our faith should be focused first and foremost on developing the righteousness of Christ in our daily living.
The reward for seeking Christ is that without thought, care, or merit, he will provide all that we need. This does not mean we don’t have to live honest , productive lives in order to acquire our basic necessities. It means to prioritize our lives seeking Christ and his kingdom and “all these things” shall be added unto you.
We must always remember Christ is the source of all our needs; physical, emotional, and most importantly, spiritual. You will never be malnourished in any of these areas, if you seek Christ’s kingdom first!
