Comfort During Grief

Grief is a natural response to loss. It’s the feeling you experience when someone or something is taken away from you.  The range of emotions are different for everyone.

It is an individual process and there’s no right way, wrong way or proper amount of time to get through the grieving process. How you grieve depends on many variables. Your lifestyle, personality, significance of the loss and faith all play a role in how you handle the loss.

The five most common stages of grief are: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. You should allow yourself to go through each stage. However, your goal is to do so without wallowing in despair or getting stuck prior to acceptance.

Although grief is an inevitable part of life, there are some ways to help you cope with the pain. Early on it is important to come to terms with your grief and find ways to move on with your life.

You must admit you are hurting and accept that grief may trigger many different emotions. Know that how you grieve will be unique to you. Allow others who care about you to be supportive. Take care of yourself emotionally and physically.

Most importantly, allow your faith in God to comfort and strengthen you throughout the process. Always remember that you are never alone. The Word says, “God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted”. Matthew 5:4
