Healing Wounds

Recently something was said to me that tapped into a negative space. The scab had been removed from an old wound. An area of my life , that I thought was resolved, was reawakened.  The existence of the scab was indicative that complete healing had not occurred. Wounds that are completely healed may leave a scar, but not a scab. This incident made me realize I have more self work to do in regards to the healing process. I have to get to the root of the issue causing the discomfort and  disrupt the negative pattern of thinking that creates an emotional bond of the painful past. Because this bond has the ability to cause pain long after the injury happened.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, know that what you’re feeling is normal. The process of healing can be especially difficult when someone else’s actions are causing the pain.  Healing requires you to take your focus off them and place it on God.  He is the only one that can mend your brokenness. The focus then becomes what have you learned from the experience, what boundaries must you put in place to protect against future harm, how to manage the remnants of emotional pain, and how do you get from scab to scar?

God’s Word offers this as a starting place, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” Psalms 121:1-2

What you focus on during your healing will dictate how effectively and efficiently you heal.  You must look to God to heal from the emotional pain related to the injury.  With God you are able to rise above the pain to receive complete healing.  Only then will you be able to look at your scar as a symbol of courage and growth. You have the choice to focus on the victory from your new found strength and not the pain of the past, but you must decide that for yourself. There’s nothing in your past that can control you. So don’t let the past control your thoughts now. Lift up your eyes, get help, and let the peace of God prevail!
