“Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!” John 14:14 NLT
This scripture could make you feel like you’ve hit the lotto for answered prayers. Although it is customary to end a prayer with the phrase, doing so has caused many to feel like it’s the automatic seal of approval for your request.
However, prayer is not a magic wand and name dropping Jesus’ does not motivate God to move on your behalf. Saying, “in Jesus’ name” doesn’t validate your request.
For example, a military officer cannot issue an order simply by saying, “in the name of the government” if the order is in violation of established policy.
The words "in Jesus’ name" have no power of their own. In order for anything you ask in prayer to be granted, the prayer must be in line with the character of God and in His will. By using those words, you’re asking to invoke His authority and will instead of yours.
