I was reading a 21-Day Plan through the book of John recently and came across the familiar, yet profound, account of when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. It reminded me of how Jesus always has the power to deliver us from dead situations, if we have the faith to believe.
When you’re going through uncomfortable times, it’s easy to lose sight of the power of God. When you’re relying on your own abilities or don’t see the hand of God in your situation, you tend to focus on what you’ve lost; what’s dead.
I’d like to offer you an alternative point of view to consider. What if that thing that’s dead to you wasn’t what was best for you? What if you’re looking at it as a loss, but in actuality it’s not?
Although God always has the power to save you from dead situations, there are times when He will allow a thing to die in order to deliver you through it. Jesus could have healed Lazarus, but raising him from the dead allowed Mary, Martha and everyone around to witness an even greater miracle.
Trust God and know that every death is not bad. Sometimes things die so you can see the power of God when new life springs forth. Your dead situation becomes the foundation for greater faith in Him and new life can spring forth.
It’s never a question of “If” God can do it. Not even a question of “How” He can do it. Your job is to have faith and wait patiently for “When” He will do it. “Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.” John 11:23 NLT And Martha believed!
