Spiritual Battles

I promised you my Faith Talks would be transparent, vulnerable, faith based, and intentional. I’m a survivor of emotional trauma brought on by my decision to stay in an unhealthy relationship too long.

My rationale for staying were common reasons, such as, it will get better, he’s going to change, this is unconditional love, I’ll pray harder, I’m a strong woman, I want to keep my family together, blah, blah, blah!

Once I gathered the strength to end the relationship. I realized staying with someone who’d already broken our vows was going to break me.

You may think that once you’ve been delivered from a traumatic situation that healing is automatic and swift. It’s not and what you desire most is peace. When you’ve been broken beyond the point that you don’t even recognize yourself, you just want peace.

This morning I awakened from a nightmare which awakened traumatic experiences in me which were so deep, they felt real. What bothered me the most was my anger towards God. Yes, I was mad at Him because I didn’t understand why He would allow me to be haunted by the very trauma He’d delivered me from.  What I didn’t realize initially was how the nightmare was being used as part of my healing.

This experience took me to Ephesians 6:12 NLT - “For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”  Healing is an ongoing process, which takes different triggers and tools to get you through. My nightmare was the trigger and God’s Word is the tool.

The battle for emotional healing cannot be fought in the physical because it is a spiritual journey. Christ’s victory at Calvary is ours by faith so the spiritual weapons we need to defeat the battles we face have already been provided!
