You must study God’s word daily to feed your soul. When Jesus was led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, after fasting 40 days and nights, he was hungry. The devil tried to tempt him by suggesting that if Jesus was the Son of God, he should turn the stones into bread. Jesus answered and said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
It is a known fact that you need food to nourish your body to stay alive. If you don’t get the essential nutrients you need, the complex body God created for you cannot sustain itself or operate properly.
If you take a moment to think about how your brain and organs must work together in order to do something as simple as lifting your finger, your mind should be blown! You are a masterpiece with a very unique design. However, your bodily functions will cease to operate if not fed properly.
Although you may be able to operate your physical body on an improper diet for quite some time, it will not function at peak effectiveness . The same rule applies to your spiritual nourishment. If you don’t receive a proper balance of the word of God, your spirit man will suffer from the same ineffectiveness!
You must consume the word of God on a consistent basis for your spiritual man to grow and develop. So just as you can’t survive physically without food, you can’t survive spiritually without the word.
As you grow in faith, your appetite for God’s word should grow proportionately. As a full grown adult you can’t survive off the same portion as an infant. As a full grown person of faith, you won’t survive off of an infant’s portion of a God’s word.
I know, maybe you’re saying, “I try to read the Bible, but it’s so confusing.” Well, nowadays there are many translations available and you must pray and ask God for revelation. There are other ways to partake of God’s word. You can attend Sunday School or Bible Study, listen to sermons and gospel music, and read faith-based books or journals, to name a few.
The bottom line is this, you must feed your soul! Don’t suffer from spiritual malnutrition when the word of God is so plenteous and readily available!
